“Volunteering is the most fundamental act of citizenship and philanthropy in our society. It is offering time, energy and skills of one’s own free will.”
- Volunteer Canada

If you are interested in joining our volunteer team and want to donate your time to help those less fortunate in our community, we urge you to contact Transition House for further information. With your help, we can continue to make it possible for Transition House to work toward finding local solutions to the growing problem of homelessness in Northumberland County.

Transition House volunteers are a welcome and necessary component of the services provided by the Transition House. Volunteers bring many skills and talents to their work both within and outside of the house, as well as behind the scenes.

Our volunteers assist with the following activities:

  • Providing a listening ear for residents who may want to talk
  • Helping staff complete grocery purchases for our residents
  • Resident meal planning and cooking
  • Office reception and answering front door
  • Ensuring a sense of order within the shelter
  • Assist with light household maintenance and repairs
  • Gardening and lawn care
  • Child care activities

Transition House requires a current Police Reference Check before volunteering within the shelter.
